Envoys and special advisers to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak are earning higher wages than him (Najib), said an opposition MP.

Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong said according to a budget for the Prime Minister's Department, Najib's salary is RM22,826.65.

However, Liew pointed out that Federal Action Council for Selangor chairperson Noh Omar, the prime minister’s special adviser on woman's issues Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and Malaysia's special envoy to India S Samy Vellu, are each earning RM27,227.20.

The salaries of special envoy to China Ong Ka Ting, and special envoy to East Asia Tiong King Sing are not stated in the document, but they come under the same pay scheme code “3T323".

"Why are these advisers getting paid more than the prime minister?" Liew asked at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

He also questioned if the envoys have had their expired or expiring tenures extended.

According to the document, Samy Vellu's tenure expired on Dec 31, 2014, Ong's on Oct 31, 2015, and Tiong's will end on Dec 31.

"They shouldn't be able to use their titles anymore but they are still working," Liew said.
