Cheras Umno division information chief Zamri Redzuan has been acquitted from his criminal breach of trust (CBT) charge by the Sessions Court today.

Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin accepted the defence counsel's request for a discharge amounting to an acquittal today, despite the prosecution’s request for a discharge not amounting to acquittal.

"The prosecution has accepted the representation from the defence and agreed, and requested the court for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for the accused under Section 376 read with Section 254 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

"The case has been withdrawn. We agreed with the letter of representation by the defence sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in April," Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Wan Ahmad Nidzam Wan Omar said when met by reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.

When asked what was the reasoning in the letter of representation, he simply said there were many, and reiterated that the AG’s Chambers had found them acceptable.

"Discharge amounting to an acquittal means he has been freed and cannot be charged again for this," he added.

Zamri had been charged with CBT on March 23 over a cheque of RM4,350 two years ago.

He was entrusted with the branch accounts, as the Jalan Pasar Pudu Umno branch chief, and had allegedly committed the offence by banking the cheque into his personal account on Jan 27, 2014, in Cheras.

He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years with whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
