A man claims he has been badly beaten by police at a warehouse in Bandar Baru Nilai before being taken to Nilai police station where he suffered further beating.

Lawyer M Manoharan said his client Muhammad Izzatuddin Mardzuki woke up in a hospital with over 50 stitches after the beating.

Izzatuddin lodged a police report of the incident at the Seremban district police headquarters on Thursday.

In the police report, he claimed a group of men claiming to be from the Home Ministry tried to enter his family's warehouse and later proceeded to assault him at 3am on May 25. He was subsequently handcuffed.

"I was kicked with a boot, my head was slapped onto the table, then on the floor. I was beaten on the stomach and back," he said, adding there were four men in plain clothes.

He said one man ransacked a Kancil car in the store, and made him kneel on the road behind the warehouse.

"Then a man took his gun, pointed it at my chest and said he will shoot me and give me drugs.

"They slapped and hit my head and body until I fell on the floor, and then I was ordered to stand up and I was beaten until I fell again," he added.

Izzatuddin said the men then spat on him and took off their shoes and used their footwear to beat him.

Taken to Nilai station

He said they proceeded to take the RM100 on his table and emptied his wallet of around RM180, while one wore his newly-bought T-shirt with a Volkswagen logo.

Izzatuddin said a Proton Waja police car later arrived and he was brought into the vehicle by two uniformed policemen and taken to the Nilai police station.

He added that an Indonesian worker at the warehouse called Fitri, which the men accused of having fake documentation, was also brought to the station.

At the police station, Izzatuddin said after being questioned about Fitri's documentation, he was shown the picture of a girl and was asked if he knew her.

"I said I didn't know her. Then I was beaten again. They took a plastic pipe and hit my body, feet and legs while Fitri watched.

"One of the men repeatedly warned me not to tell people that the police beat me up, but to say that I had tried to run away from the police and fell into a drain.

"At that time, I asked to see their police identity cards and one of them showed me his police card.

"I was also asked to jump ten times while saying the word 'bro' because I had called them 'bro'.

"After jumping, one of the men took a baseball stick and hit my back. I was then asked to jump again," he said.

Izzatuddin said he later found it difficult to breathe and began to feel dizzy, falling onto the floor.

Nine hours in surgery

He said the men then took off his clothes, leaving him with a pair of boxers before bathing him and then placing him under high air conditioning.

Izzatuddin said he was later asked to wear a lock up garment and short pants before being carried into a Proton Waja police car.

"When exiting the building, I saw the man who took and wore my new Volkswagen shirt. He drove the car. After entering the car, I lost consciousness.

"I only woke up in the high dependency ward at Seremban Hospital on Thursday, May 26 and was surrounded by my family members.

"I was told that I was brought by ambulance to the hospital and had undergone surgery for nine hours from 2pm to 11pm," he said.

Manoharan, who highlighted the issue on his Facebook page, demanded answers from the police.

"My client was arrested at gun point and was brutally assaulted by some police officers.

"He was discharged from hospital on Thursday. I want an answer from the inspector-general of police.

"Arrest and charge all the policemen involved," said the lawyer.

Malaysiakini has contacted the Seremban district police who confirmed receipt of the report, adding that investigations is being handled by an officer from the Nilai police station.
