As Malaysian shuttlers toiled on the courts to win medals for the nation, Malaysian politicians however are smashing each other for the “idiot” title.

The first shot came from DAP lawmaker Ng Wei Aik, and it was a poor one. So MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon wasted little time in delivering the killer blow.

Taking to Facebook, Ng had ranted against the state-owned RTM for showcasing the men’s singles quarterfinal match between Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen and Great Britain’s Rajiv Ouseph.

“This is the live telecast of Rio Olympic badminton match,” he wrote, with a screen capture of the televised match.

“When all Malaysians are giving support to our mixed doubles players Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying who are fighting in the final match in Rio Olympic, our TV1 is showing the match between Great Britain and Denmark.

“Don’t know why! But a senseless RTM and TV1!” he said, not realising that the mixed doubles match was slated to start after the singles quarterfinal bout.

After the posting was shared by netizens, the DAP leader, perhaps embarrassed of his faux pas, deleted it.

However, the MCA Youth chief made a screen capture of the post and called Ng an “idiot” on his Facebook page.

“This DAP MP’s stupid statement is laughable. He is full of hostility and arrogance.

“Is he really so stupid that he doesn’t know that the live broadcast is based on the (men’s singles) match’s progress? Malaysian match is after Great Britain vs Denmark. Please,” he said.

Ng: I am no idiot, Chong is the idiot

Reporters quizzed Ng on the matter during a function this morning, and the DAP MP claimed he did not know the match schedule had changed.

According to China Press, he said the mixed doubles match was slated to be telecast live at 10.50pm, and he had waited for an hour, but there was nothing.

“The station also did not inform the public that the match was delayed. They can’t expect everyone to know the timing. I think Chong is the idiot, not me.

“Not knowing about the change of schedule does not make me an idiot,” he added.

In last night’s match, the Malaysian pair had to settle for the silver medal after being defeated by Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir 21-14 and 21-12.
