Bersih has invited politicians from both sides of the political divide to take part in its seven-week nationwide convoy to promote its Nov 19 rally.

"We have invited all of them, whether its BN or opposition. We always do that," Berish chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah told Malaysiakini.

She said this when asked if Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, will be involved in the convoy, which begins Oct 1.

She denied rumours that Mahathir and Lim had been appointed to head the convoy in the north and southern regions respectively.

She said all are welcome to join, but only those who agree with Bersih's demands for reforms may make public speeches.

The Bersih 5 convoy will kick off simultaneously in six regions, namely Kangar, Perlis in the north; Johor Bahru in the south; Kota Bharu, Kelantan in the east coast; Lumut, Perak in the west coast; Sandakan in Sabah; and Miri, Sarawak.

It will culminate in the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19 in Kuala Lumpur, which will demand for a clean government, clean elections, the strengthening of parliamentary democracy, the empowerment of Sabah and Sarawak and the right to dissent.

It also seeks to demand Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation, amid allegations that he is involved in corruption.

Najib has consistently denied abusing public funds.

Last year's Bersih 4 rally made similar demands, and was attended by 100,000 people at its peak.
