Former Umno division leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan has been warded in the hospital, causing the Court of Appeal today to postpone his hearing under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) to Dec 13.

Lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla (photo, above) said he was informed that Khairuddin, his client, suffered diarrhoea two days ago.

“We were told (Khairuddin) has suffered from severe dehydration and exhaustion due to diarrhoea, which lasted two days. He was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

“As such, we are forced to ask the case to be postponed. Khairuddin always attended his court cases… This case will now be heard on Dec 13,” Haniff told reporters at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya this morning.

Khairuddin and his lawyer Matthias Chang  - who appeared in court today - were arrested and detained under Sosma late last year for alleged financial sabotage.

However, the Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Azman Husin ruled in November last year that the charge of alleged sabotage of financial services does not fall under Sosma and allowed the two bail of RM10,000 each.

But the prosecution appealed the High Court's decision and the case is now being heard in the Appeals Court.

Should the prosecutors succeed, Khairuddin and Chang are likely to be detained again without bail as Sosma charges are non-bailable offences.
