Meet Firdaus, a successful young Malay man in the year 2050.

At the age of 15, he had memorised the Quran. He later obtained a triple major first class degree in mathematics, accounting, and syariah from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim) before securing an MBA from France and finally a PhD from Harvard.

Now a chief executive officer for a wakaf-based entity SU Corporation, Firdaus travels from London to New York on a private jet in order to finalise the purchase of a corporate office next to the Trump Tower in New York.

On board the flight, he drinks espresso while talking to his mother Fatimah from Baling, Kedah, who happens to be wearing a red tudung her son bought from a boutique in Milan.

Through what appears to be an old Nokia phone, Fatimah hears that her son is coming home for the weekend to give aid to poor families.

The successful Firdaus - who believes his race is special - is the main character in a pamphlet produced by the Higher Education Ministry.

The pamphlets were distributed at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.

A Higher Education Ministry official said the book was not related to the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) plan mooted by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"We mooted the idea first, even PM took some ideas from it," the official told Malaysiakini.

TN50 was announced by Najib during Budget 2017 as part of efforts to chart the country's future.

It has been viewed as a snub to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Vision 2020.
