Former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik's son, Hee Leong, is expected to announce his decision to vie for the top MCA Youth post tomorrow.

"I will hold a press conference to announce my decision at the Syuen Hotel in Ipoh at 2pm tomorrow. What post am I going for? That I will let you all (media) know tomorrow," he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report today.

Hee Leong, 35, had declared that he would contest a key MCA Youth post but declined to mention which post he was eyeing.

The Kelantan MCA Youth was reported to have nominated him to contest the MCA Youth chief post while Perak MCA Youth, of which he is the Kuala Kangsar division Youth leader, recommended him for the deputy chief post.

However, Hee Leong has strongly hinted that he was not keen on the No 2 post.

With Hee Leong's expected decision tomorrow, the contest for the top post slated for Aug 19 will be a three-way fight.

The other two who have declared their intention to go for the job are Youth joint sec-gen and Bentong MP Liow Tiong Lai and Kapar division Youth chief Soong Kee Chai.

Not keen on 'line-up'

Hee Leong told malaysiakini in a telephone conversation yesterday that he has not sought the views of his supporters on the 'line-up' released by the wing's six-member negotiation team last Friday.

The line-up has Hee Leong and two others, Youth joint sec-gen and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok and Serdang division chief Liew Yuen Keong for the No 2 post. Liow was the sole candidate for the top post in the line-up which was said to have the consensus of all state Youth chiefs.

"No, there is no 'menu' (preferred candidate list) in the party and we didn't discuss about the proposed line-up," said Hee Leong who was in Sabah yesterday to meet his supporters.

The MCA Youth chief post will be vacated by incumbent Ong Tee Keat who is contesting for the vice-presidency.
