The twists-riddled Approved Permits (AP) scandal, saw another sharp turn today coming from Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang.

Turning the tables, the veteran politician gave his detractor Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Wee Choo Keong 48-hours to execute his threat or be branded a 'political joker'.

Last week, Wee urged Lim to come clean on the scandal and issued him a 48-hour deadline, failing which he threatened to file a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).

He had claimed that Lim and other DAP parliamentarians had also received APs to import cars, a burning national issue at present.

"I am giving Wee a 48-hour ultimatum to carry out his threat or he would have proved himself to be a political joker who does not deserve to be taken seriously in future," said Lim in a statement

"His ultimatum had expired by more than 48 hours. To be exact, by some 72 hours. He has still to lodge his ACA report against me for AP corruption," he added.

Lim, who has been vocal in calling on the government to be transparent on the matter, has yet to confirm or deny Wee's allegation.

'Political chicanery and mischief'

"My position on the accountability and transparency of MPs (members of parliament) and APs is clear. I had called on the government to make public all the individual APs which had been issued, averaging a thousand a year, including to ministers, deputy ministers and MPs.

"I have things to say about MPs and APs which I am withholding until Wee has lodged his ACA report. It is food for thought, nonetheless, why no one seems interested about APs and other members of parliament - whether Barisan Nasional or other opposition parties," he said.

The former DAP chairperson said he is not fighting the threat in order to expose Wee's 'political chicanery and mischief'.

"I am looking forward to the ACA visit for two reasons. Firstly, on what basis (will) the ACA be acting on Wee's report and secondly, I would like to know what has happened to the various ACA reports that I had lodged in the past," he added.

In particular, Lim wanted to know what happened to the report lodged against former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik and his son Ling Hee Leong .

He also wants to use the opportunity to ascertain the outcome of ACA investigations into various scandals such as those related to APs, Umno money politics and former chief minister Osu Sukam's multi-million dollar gambling debt .

Meanwhile, Wee informed malaysiakini that he will lodge the report tomorrow.
