Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad today denied having political ambitions, saying it is part of his job as a public officer to engage with the rakyat.

"I am a public servant and I want to state here that I am not interested in politics. Tell Saifuddin he doesn't need to be afraid.

"In efforts to fight corruption and abuse of power, we need support from the public... that's why I have been meeting with the people and having campaigns in many places," Dzulkifli said.

He was responding to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who last week questioned the MACC chief's recent publicity blitz, where he was seen criticising Opposition-ruled states for refusing to sign an anti-corruption pledge and attending frequent engagements with the public at walkabouts and Hari Raya Aidilfitri open houses.

"If that makes me a celebrity, what can I do?" Dzulkifli told reporters after officiating at an anti-corruption pledge event at the Royal Malaysian Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

More FIC arrests expected

To a question on the status of investigations into Felda Investment Corporation (FIC), he hinted at more arrests.

"We are still investigating, but there may be (more) arrests soon," Dzulkifli said.

Last Friday, the MACC arrested two former real estate executives suspected of manipulating the valuation of a four-star hotel in Kensington, London, which resulted in "FIC overpaying tens of millions" for it.

Two senior management staff were also remanded to facilitate investigations into the purchase.

FIC had reportedly bought the hotel for £60 million (RM330 million) between 2013 and 2015.

However, Dzulkifli was less forthcoming on whether MACC had re-opened files on the Scorpene case - where corruption was alleged to be involved the 2002 sale of two Scorpene-class submarines to Malaysia.

"On that (matter), I don’t want to comment," he said, despite repeated attempts at obtaining a reply.

Last Wednesday, French investigators indicted two former top executives involved in the sale.
