Deputy Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan said today that he is not aware of the existence of a clandestine organisation which aims to make Malaysia part of an Islamic empire.

Asked on the matter at a press conference in Malacca this afternoon, he said, "This is the first time I have heard about it."

He added that the police would take a close look into the matter to see whether there is any truth in it.

Yesterday, the Islamic Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) revealed the existence of the group known as 'Kumpulan Din/Pemuda Kahfi'. Its members were said to subscribe to a deviant Islamic teaching.

According to Abim, the group's activities have been traced in Seri Kembangan, Kajang, Ampang and Gombak, (all in Selangor), as well as other parts of the country.

Abim has since informed the police as well as the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) of the matter.

Fugitive Soosai

In another development, Musa said that the police were still in the midst of tracking down Malaysian fugitive Michael Soosai.

"Police are still investigating the matter but we cannot reveal at this point what action had been taken," he added.

Soosai who is wanted in connection with a string of crimes in Malaysia is believed to be hiding in India.

It is believed that he left Malaysia after allegedly faking his own death.

However, his name surfaced again following a murder case in India whereby the victim, a Malaysian and known to Soosai, was said to be lured there.

Subsequently, several websites on the fugitive provided details on his alleged connection with several senior police officers in Malaysia.

Police task forces were then formed to probe the allegations.
