Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has asked for witness protection, claiming those linked directly or indirectly to 1MDB funds abroad had made threats to his life and his family members.

The Malay Mail reported that Najib had lodged a police report yesterday, claiming his sources had told him that the threats were both from within the country and overseas.

Najib is said to have lodged the report at the Sentul district police headquarters yesterday evening.

Sentul police chief R Munusamy had visited Najib at his home last night.

Meanwhile in the same report, Najib also claimed that cash seized by police in raids at Pavilion Residences were donations from his friends meant for BN's election campaign.

He also reiterated his claim that the RM2.6 billion he received in 2013 was a donation from the Saudi royal family.

He also complained that investigators had not furnished him with a list of items that had been seized.

Najib is currently the subject of investigations linked to the 1MDB scandal.

Police had on Wednesday launched simultaneous raids on several premises linked to Najib.

In the marathon search, police combing through luxury condominium units at Pavilion Residences had seized 72 bags of cash and jewellery, as well as 284 boxes of luxury handbags.

China Press, citing sources, claimed that items seized from the condominium were valued at RM1.2 million.

Meanwhile critics believed the RM2.6 billion donation, as it has come to be known, was actually funds diverted from 1MDB.
