When Bryan Ng, CEO and founder of WITO Technology Sdn Bhd, launched his business, he had no investors, no safety net, no initial customers, and no vendor support. At the time, he was also a father of two young children, keeping his entrepreneurial struggles hidden from his family for three years while he worked tirelessly to build something from scratch.

Today, he leads a 20-strong team, manages a thriving software ecosystem, and is the proud recipient of the prestigious SME100 Award, a recognition he once admired from afar in business magazines. His journey is not just one of resilience but of clarity, conviction, and an unwavering mission: to bring transformative technology to Malaysia’s underserved SME market.

Bridging the Tech Gap for SMEs

WITO Technology was founded in response to the team’s shared realisation of a critical gap in Malaysia’s business ecosystem. While large corporations and government-linked entities had ready access to advanced digital solutions, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were being left behind facing resource constraints and lacking the technical expertise needed for digital transformation.

“I worked across many roles in IT, digital marketing, advertising, and mobile apps,” Ng said. “I served MNCs, corporates, and governments—including SME, and found SMEs always have the same problem, lack of good capital, time, and IT Team. They’re often overlooked, even though they make up the backbone of our economy.”

That insight sparked the idea for WITO Technology—a company purpose-built to empower SMEs through customised digital solutions. At the heart of its offerings is Omnimerce, WITO’s proprietary platform that streamlines a business’s daily operations, including sales channels, customer service, membership management, and more supply chain solutions. Tailored for logistics, manufacturing, retail, F&B, and telco industries, Omnimerce enables businesses to digitalise at their own pace and scale.

Ng and his team don’t just drop off software and walk away. “We sit with the SME operations team, understand how their business model works, and redesign their SOPs around digital transformation. It’s personal, it’s operational, and it’s strategic,” he said.

Built from the Ground Up

Starting a business is hard. Starting with zero capital and no support system is even harder. Ng left a director-level position to pursue his dream. He began by offering basic services—photography, website development—before gradually building credibility and partnerships.

“I couldn’t let my family know. For three years, I acted like everything was normal. I had to manage our monthly expenses without a stable income,” he said. It was only after the business began to stabilise that he partnered with his first co-founder.

“But it taught me everything—marketing, creative work, copywriting, business development. I wore every hat except HR and accounting.”

They each made the bold decision to step away from their original career paths and join Ng in pursuing a shared vision to build a technology-driven company that could transform the digital landscape for SMEs in Malaysia.

Today, WITO Technology employs 20 staff. Ng credits much of the company’s success to his leadership philosophy: putting the right people in the right positions. “Once someone is placed correctly, they can grow quickly and contribute more efficiently. It’s not about control—it’s about enabling strengths.”

Ecosystem-Driven Innovation

What sets WITO apart is its ecosystem-centric approach. Rather than building everything in-house, the company leverages a network of partners across software, IoT, infrastructure, finance, legal, and HR.

“We don’t need to carry every burden ourselves,” Ng says. “By collaborating with ecosystem partners, we manage risk better and stay agile.”

WITO’s innovation strategy isn’t just about riding the next wave of hype—be it AI, IoT, or automation. It’s about measured implementation. “We understand that SMEs fear change. So we start by digitalising their full business channel. Then, we introduce advanced technologies pillar by pillar, without disrupting their operations.”

WITO also works with industry players from China and Malaysia, integrating new technologies into its platform through collaboration, not just internal R&D. “This way, we stay ahead without getting overwhelmed.”

Recognition, Branding, and the Road to IPO

Bryan Ng had been following the SME100 Awards for nearly a decade before WITO Technology became a recipient. “I used to read about the winners in magazines and think, ‘How do I become one of them?’” he recalls.

Winning the SME100 Award has significantly elevated WITO’s profile. “Local companies now see us as credible. Regional partners from Singapore and China feel more confident working with us. We gain customers faster,” he said.

But Ng isn’t stopping there. With an eye toward expansion and sustainability, WITO is actively preparing for IPO-readiness. “The tech industry evolves at breakneck speed. Every few years there’s a revolution. We must grow in capacity, talent, and structure,” he says.

The company has already begun internal restructuring, setting up standard operating procedures for all departments and implementing corporate governance practices.

“Now we’re in a place where the company is scalable, no matter its size. That’s crucial for growth,” said Ng.

Staying Grounded Amid the Grind
Despite the wins, Ng remains grounded—and laser-focused. “Entrepreneurship has ups and downs. My biggest lesson is to stay focused. Know your direction. If that’s not clear, you waste time,” he said.

Discipline is a key part of his routine, and that discipline has helped WITO weather the chaos of the startup world and emerge stronger. As Ng puts it, “Technology may be the foundation of our company, but clarity and consistency are what build the structure.”

With Omnimerce continuing to serve SMEs across industries, a growing partner ecosystem, and eyes set on the IPO horizon, WITO Technology is not just a success story—it’s a story of resilience, reinvention, and real-world impact.

And for Bryan Ng, along with co-founders Kelvin Wong, Wong Weng Sun, Ryan Low, and Andy Lim, the journey is only just beginning.
