COMMENT | We the undersigned Malaysian Members of Parliament urge Asean to suspend Myanmar's membership until and unless the military junta stops killing protesters. The international community must not leave Myanmar civilian protesters to die helplessly.

The killing of at least 38 protesters on March 3 shows that the global sanction of the Myanmar junta including Asean's non-recognition of the junta is utterly ineffective and inadequate.

We call upon the Malaysian and other Asean governments to commence the process to suspend Myanmar's membership in Asean until the military junta sits down with the National League for Democracy (NLD) and peaceful protestors for a peaceful solution.

Asean has the moral responsibility to stop the political massacre in our backyard. Allowing Myanmar's junta to be covered under Asean's umbrella while killing peacefully protesting Myanmar people is condoning the killing. The blood of Myanmar civilians would be in the hands of all Asean countries if we do not do what we can.
