COMMENT | Opposition to the proposed law on urban renewal took on a new dimension as two major factions within the Madani coalition appeared on opposing ends of the spectrum.

DAP is championing the bill while Umno is opposed to it in its current form.

In the latest statement from Umno, chief of the special task force to improve the bill, Johari Abdul Ghani, said it should be referred to a special parliamentary committee before it is passed.

He added that various findings have been gathered, and these will be discussed with Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to review how public views can be incorporated.
