COMMENT | We take serious note of the Penang chief minister’s recent remarks indicating that the Jelutong landfill project could still move forward in a “scaled-down” form or under “another concept”.

This is despite the Environment Department (DOE) rejecting the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the fourth consecutive time.

We commend the DOE for upholding environmental integrity. As Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has rightfully pointed out, four rejections constitute a severe red flag that cannot be ignored.
