Abdullah, whose ruling coalition is still recovering from a severe setback in the last election, believes the people will understand the government's decision to increase fuel prices.

The anti-price hike coalition of NGOs and opposition parties will be meeting soon to discuss their next course of action in the wake of largest-ever fuel increase.


'God willing I hope Malaysians will not demonstrate over this,' he said, referring to fury over earlier hikes in a country where public transport is poor and many rely on cars.


The Repeal ISA Movement (GMI) will hold a candlelight vigil outside the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping, Perak, on Saturday night.
