Should Malaysiakini produce 'arbitrary truth'?
I refer to the comments section of the Malaysiakini report BN on track to victory, opposition struggling .
I am quite disturbed by some comments which blame Malaysiakini for publishing Bernama- reported news because they expect Malaysiakini to be unbiased and publish their own analyses on the Bagan Pinang polls.
What are these people expecting? What is the ‘truth’ when there are no other stories to compare with?
If Malaysiakini were to shun all government agencies , then they are just as bad as Bernama which is perceived as biased. Are these people expecting Malaysiakini to produce arbitrary truth?
So what happens if Bernama reports news in favour of Pakatan Rakyat? Is that the truth only because that is what these people want to read?
One should read both Malaysiakini-produced stories and Bernama reports, and consider.
Otherwise, the perception of bias towards Bernama is just a borrowed conventional wisdom.
Editor's Note: No media organisation can claim complete monopoly on the truth. Not even Malaysiakini.
We encourage Malaysians to get their news from a diversity of sources - and read them with a critical eye - so that they can build their own opinion on issues affecting their lives.
We pay for the right to carry Bernama news in Malaysiakini. Not all Bernama reports appear on the Bernama website, and similarly, not all Bernama reports appear on Malaysiakini.
We also buy content from other news providers such as AFP and Reuters. In so doing, we hope to provide value-added services to Malaysiakini subscribers.
