MCA is undergoing another twist and another somersault. In politics, friends become enemies and enemies become friends while others remain fence-sitters and hope to reap the harvest from both sides.Even King Solomon would have his wisdom tested to the hilt!

Now that the table has been turned against those who wanted to grab power, Ong Tee Keat has joined forces with his former enemy, Chua Soi Lek. It was a masterstroke. Exposed for what they were, they had only themselves to blame. Now the president, with his enormous powers, could decide the careers of those plotters. Naturally, they are now jittery.

Assuming Chua 's position as deputy president is restored, then it is back to square one. Liow Tiong Lai would have to climb down to a vice-president's position. This climb-down would be a blow. Even his position as health minister would be at stake.

While MCA is having its problems sorted out, there are two side- shows. PAS recently had its meeting and another meeting will take place on Nov 7 when certain thorny issues will be thrashed out and some leaders may be disciplined or thrown out.

Much depends upon which side is stronger - the Umno-PAS group which wants Malay unity or the moderate, liberal group which wants to strengthen itself with PKR and DAP. If the former wins, then a new alignment may take place; and the Pakatan Rakyat coalition will be weakened. If the latter takes place, Pakatan will be strengthened.

PKR is also experiencing some internal power struggles in Sabah. Almost everybody wants to be chief so who will be the Indians? No easy solution is in sight especially when there are a few factions. You can never satisfy everybody. So the next best solution is to make the majority happy and let the few recalcitrant leaders hang themselves!

They can jump into the South China Sea. Who cares!

Parties like PPP, Gerakan, Supp, PBS which were strong before they joined Alliance to form BN have now become weaker. How long they will share positions with other partners is left to be seen.. The cake is of the same size; but it has to be carved to satisfy so many ‘mosquito’ parties . Each will have a bite, none will have a full stomach.

So the next year or two will see changes and a realignment of forces before the next general election and obviously, practically all politicians will place their rice bowls above other considerations failing to realise that the voters are the king-makers.

One fundamental lesson all politicians must learn and learn quickly before it is too late - never treat voters as fools for they have eyes, ears, noses – they can see, hear and smell. The Internet and other avenues makes them learned and wise. Don't play games with them.
