In yet another shocking incident self-styled sleazy god-men in India, 'Swami’ Nithiyananda has been found involved in a sex scandal after an Indian news channel released footage showing him in a compromising position with film actress who has been identified as Ranjitha.

In Malaysia, the clip was aired by the Astro's channel 211, SUN. This broadcast evoked shock all over the world. Since then, it has been the headline news in all the Tamil newspapers in Malaysia.

The real background of this great 'saint' has been unmasked. This so called god-man has about two million followers worldwide. Both this ‘swamiji’ and the actress have gone into hiding. ‘Swami’ Nithayananda has now been proved as a fraud though the truth is still to be verified.

Swamis and gurus have a great following in Malaysia. Several VIPs here including celebrities, businessmen and politicians are among the ardent devotees of these god-men. Many of them come to Malaysia on the invitation of these VIPs.

They are invited here to give devotional talks to the public and to enhance their personal power of their devotees. However, there is no regulation to monitor their activities while here.

The local community believes in them as God’s messiahs to Earth. They are willing to part with their money and belongings, given willingly to these fake saints in blind belief. Huge numbers of ‘swamis’ are emerging everyday both in India and in Malaysia. There are the real and genuine ones around but due to the fake ones, the credibility of the authentic ones are affected.  But this it is not the fault of the real swamis -  it is the fault of ordinary people like us.

One has to know that the fake swamis and monks are sexually-motivated social animals who live a luxurious life funded mainly by the donations received from their devotees and the public. It is very important for the Malaysian authorities to monitor such ‘swamis’ from India and those local ones here.

Visas should only be given to those who have official invitations from recognised religious organisations such as the Malaysia Hindu Sangam or the National Council of Hindu Temples Malaysia or from any government agency.  

The same shall also apply to astrologists, palm readers and actresses who all come here to earn an income the wrong way.
