I refer to the Malaysiakini report India deports Prabhakaran's mother back to M'sia .
It is sad and shocking to know that a terminally-ill old lady who wanted medical treatment in Tamil Nadu, India was refused entry by the Indian immigration officials just because she is the mother of the leader of the Tamil Tigers movement.
She was not even allowed to disembark from the flight.
Mrs Vallipuram Parvathy was on her way to Chennai from Malaysia with all the necessary valid travel documents. It is very inhuman on the part of the Indian officials to deny her permit to enter the country when she was there purely for medical treatment.
While she was in a Sri Lanka detention camp, she was humiliated and not provided with any medical care. After her husband’s death, she was allowed to come to Malaysia for further medical attention.
Refusing her entry is a total violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On humanitarian and compassion grounds abd also by taking her age into consideration, the Indian authorities could have granted her entry and may have monitored her activities if they think that she is of a threat to their security.
If anything untoward were to happen this lady, would both the Indian central and the state governments take responsibility? It is a shame that a country that preaches democracy, non- violence, peace and harmony could do this.
The international community shall condemn this brutal act by the Indian immigration officials at Tamil Nadu, India.
