If the police went to the fire department to check on the 'mad man' creating havoc there only to find that whoever made the call provided false information, aren't they the victims of a crank call? (See Press briefing on Fire Dept 'corruption' aborted )

Wouldn't they then charge the person who made the call for providing false information?

Or don't they consider this a crank call as it is made by someone in authority? Could the concerned police personnel answer this?
