Terengganu will consider amending its polygamy laws to allow its male assembly representatives to take more than one wife to solve the problem of single women in the state ('Terengganu may approve second wife for legislators' in The New Straits Times Interactive , Dec 20).

If it were for the high purpose of solving the problem of single women in the state, why is the move confined to PAS male assembly representatives only?

Does it mean that PAS' male representatives are presumed to have more financial and physical resources to perform conjugal duties than others?

I thought they were supposed to be exemplary in austere and pious living. So how are they in a better position financially or physically than others to help single women?

On what basis did PAS establish that its male assembly representatives can obtain this 'perk' of easier polygamy over and above other men? This really baffles me.
