There must be more meaningful and effective way to demonstrate o­ne's distaste for and distance from PAS' politics than to pick o­n the colour of MPSJ logo that will cost us another RM500,000.

There is yet another reason. PAS has no monopoly o­n the green colour.

Countries don't pick random colours and symbols for their flags. Every element has a reason for being there. The Arabic region's countries have flags that appear similar in some respects, due to shared symbolism.

Libya's flag is a simple green rectangle. Saudi Arabia flag is similar, with the Arabic words in the centre in white. Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates all have green bands o­n their flags, while Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria and Morocco have symbols in green. Green has been taken by all these Muslim countries to be o­ne of the symbolic colours representive of Islam. Rightly or wrongly, that is the symbolism of green which should be accorded respect, even if Arrifin Osman, the Seri Kembangan Umno branch secretary, cannot do so for PAS politics.
