I am absolutely disgusted after reading what the Bar Council president has got to say about the impending war on Iraq.

As a member of the Malaysian Bar, I find it rather odd for Mr Mah (Weng Kwai) to speak in his capacity as the Bar Council president telling us that we should support a UN-backed War against Iraq.

Short of calling it as the most simplistic and naive statement, for a president of a professional body whose ideals are to promote justice and human rights, it is very unbecoming to issue such a statement especially when it involves the killing of many innocent people.

For your information Mr President, the United Nations was formed after the World War Two to create peace among nations and to find diplomatic solutions to many of the world's problems.

The war being planned against Iraq is not only clearly a unilateral agenda led by the United States administration but at this moment in time is definitely not the only way. The UN cannot be seen to be used as a rubber stamp by any country to endorse its own military action against any other country.

Millions of people around the world has spoken out against the possible attack on Iraq... and in no terms have they made it an exception even if the UN Security Council give its nod.

So Mr President if you are for militarism, speak for yourself and not in the name of the Bar.
