I was shocked when I read that 270 Indian IT professionals were arrested, slapped, kicked and made to squat at the Brickfields police station. The police claimed that they were conducting a search for foreigners without valid work permits or for those who have overstayed. But do you have to stoop so low to do your job on professionals who are working for MSC-status companies?

What happened to all the MSC guarantees? Freedom to recruit foreign IT workers includes taking care of them properly as invited guests in the country.

How do you feel if you are in a foreign country, being rudely awaken at 7am , taken to a police station and held there till 7pm just to confirm whether you have a work permit when you really have one?

Couldn't the police be more professional in doing their job? The IT professionals were handcuffed and dragged out of their homes just on suspicion that they may be illegal immigrants.

There is something horribly wrong with the way our police force, the immigration department and other authorities deal with foreigners.

I hope the government takes some remedial actions immediately, otherwise we will scare off not only the tourists but also investors.

As for the IT professionals, the MSC guarantees are really not worth the paper they are written on.
