Umno, not PAS violating Malay values
It was ridiculously amusing to read the article on Kelantan People's Action Council patron Razaleigh Hamzah, saying that PAS exploited Islam to eliminate the culture and arts of the people of Kelantan.
He further added that the actions were politically motivated. Such statements from a past prime Umno leader only reinforces the prevailing notion that Umno hardly has any substance to outsmart PAS.
It would have been more meaningful and logical if Razaleigh outlined how Umno helped in promoting culture and arts in Kelantan, how Umno improved cultural values, how Umno contributed to the progress of the Kelantanese people, both materially and spiritually.
The Malay community's perception of Umno is one of exploiting its political power to remain as the ruling party, and also allowed corruption to flourish in the country.
Innumerable allegations of elite corrupt practices bear ample testimony to this, the classical example being the reports made by former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim against top Umno leaders.
Instead of throwing unsubstantiated allegations against PAS, he should have the honesty and integrity to reprimand Umno leaders for their corruption and take them to task for violating Malay cultural values.
