I quite agree with Adcin's letter titled 'Mahathir's failure is the reason for PAS success'. The unprecedented exodus of Umno members, particularly the educated and dynamic young ones - after the pernicious persecution of Anwar Ibrahim by the Mahathir regime - to PAS indicates that people will naturally move away from something which they perceive as being morally bankrupt.

Umno is definitely receding into political oblivion. It is now convulsed by the agonies of contending camps within itself, entangled in the mesh of its accumulated falsities, sinking deeper into a suicidal political carnage, precipitated by the neglect of morality.

If we take a closer look at Umno today, one can see that it has become spiritually destitute, morally bankrupt, politically disrupted, socially convulsed and economically paralysed. It is writhing, bleeding, and breaking up beneath the avenging power of truth.

Such a degraded party can only lose it followers, especially those who hold on to virtues and values derived from religious teachings.

The continuing degradation of Umno, precipitated by the sacrilege acts of its leadership, specifically the atrocious persecution of Anwar, cannot be arrested by propaganda of politically treachery.

Umno is too defiled for any form of salvation. Malays disenchanted with Umno moved to PAS because it was the only option available at that point in time.

This was the political windfall for PAS because it gave the opportunity to propagate the party's ideals and struggle to a new large Malay group.

Coupled with this, the PAS-led state leadership have demonstrated exemplary honest and humble leadership, captivating the fair mind of good people. Both Kelantan and Terengganu have shown virtually no political corruption, with their leaders showing the dynamic force of example in the quality of their leadership.

Umno has little virtuous leadership that can match PAS leaders like Nik Aziz or Hadi Awang. Umno has to face this reality and come to term with its weakness and impending collapse.

Let the people decide the fate of Umno through the proper democratic process, devoid of tyrannical intimidation that can thwart or stifle the peoples' free will to choose a leader.
