The recent ban on the sale of alcohol in shops and minimarts in Terengganu epitomises why believing in PAS' promises is dangerous. PAS does not live in the real world and has no clue how its policies materially affect people and it is always the onus of the innocent to prove they are not guilty.

Why is banning alcohol in shops and minimarts bad? Because it will kill the business of many in the minimarts and shops. Convenience stores' sales depend on certain higher margin higher volume item. Alcohol sales typically account for 25 percent of sales and more of its margins. Banning alcohol sales will not only kill of the many small shopkeepers, iwill not lower alcohol consumption either.

Instead it will drive sales to supermarkets and other outlets owned by bigger and richer companies. It will drive poorer drinkers to illegal and more dangerous unregulated alternatives like samsu .

This is typical of PAS which is fixated on their religion and have little understanding of how the real world works. That is why their promises are not worth anything.

Life would be so easy for all of us if we can just live in the past with today's knowledge. Unfortunately that is not how things work and the rest of us have to struggle with the facts of today and uncertainties of tomorrow
