Here’s why I’m writing to Chua Tee Yong

With regard to MCA Youth vice-chairperson Tan Kok Eng’s statement in page 10 of The Star dated July 8, 2014 over the dodgy multi-level marketing scheme promoted by the controversial Chinese national Zhang Jian, I have, as a matter of fact, written to three authorities last month, namely the police, Bank Negara and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.

However, only the police have replied stating that there are criminal elements under the purview of Bank Negara, which is the reason why I have pursued this matter with Chua Tee Yong’s ministry.

The other reason why I questioned Chua about this is because Zhang, the self-proclaimed “world’s future richest man”, took photos with many MCA leaders - from previous president Ong Ka Ting to current president Liow Tiong Lai. They even publicly shared the same stage.

Is it not correct for me to ask Chua, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, whether the man is linked to their leaders?

I disagree with Chua and Tan that the matter does not involve Bank Negara but only involves the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.

Bank Negara and the Finance Ministry should initiate investigation on this RM300 million scheme under the Financial Services Act 2013 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 as it may involve financial fraud, money-laundering and illegal deposit-taking.

Chua must therefore act fast to instruct his ministry to investigate this financial scheme and not simply wash his hands off the matter. And Tan Kok Eng should be chastised for riding on this matter with the intention to gain publicity for himself.
