It is indeed shocking to read that some students have been sponsored by the Public Services Department to study for degrees that are not recognised by the authorities.

Not only are young lives disrupted but public funds are being squandered on courses that cannot be gainfully utilised by the recipients for the benefit of the nation.

Surely it is not too much to expect our highly paid civil servants in the PSD to check which universities and courses are recognised by the Recognition of Qualification Committee before sending our students for useless courses?

If it is not the task of the PSD to check if public funds are not going to be wasted by such ignorance or incompetence, we should remove the privilege of awarding scholarships from the PSD and reduce some of their manpower costs.
