MIC Women’s wing chief backs Najib
Wanita MIC pleadges support and cooperation with Najib Abdul Razak and his drive to implement programmes and policies for the betterment of the rakyat and the nation.
Najib inherited a much weaker government, a government without a two-third majority from Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, after the general election in 2008 yet he managed to bring victory to Barisan Nasional in the 2013 general election.
Despite persistent threats from opposition and recently, Dr Mahathir Mohmad, the prime minister has shown that he is sincere and ever-willing to work hard improving future of ordinary Malaysians, like farmers, fishermen, taxi drivers and other low-income earners.
Our prime minister has a very clear path forward in terms of the transformation of the economy. Many states had received unprecedented allocations for development from the federal government under his administration.
Disparagement of his governing are part and parcel of what Najib has to go through as national leader. Generally, past leaders of any country would not be spared by criticisms. How we conduct ourselves as political leaders reflects our own upbringing and level of self-respect as it defines character and leadership quality in us.
It is applauded that Najib till now responded gently to relentless criticisms by Dr Mahahir as it shows his respect to former prime minister. We deeply appreciate Dr Mahathir’s immense contribution and service to the nation which will be remembered for generations to come, but he should only step in when invited to. Being an experienced former PM, he should guide Najib and his administration like a mentor instead of finding fault with Najib.
Najib has contributed tremendously in uplifting the Indian community. His slogan “Nambikei” has given many hopes and confidence. The immense changes he brought to the Indian community are endless, nevertheless below are a few important ones;
- Najib was the first to announce two ministerial positions in the cabinet to represent the Indian community.
- Formed the Special Indian Task Force (SITF), which portfolio is headed by Dr S Subramaniam to tackle problem faced by Indians. Six thousand five hundred and ninety Indians have so far been given citizenship under the SITF.
- The first PM to allocate 2 billion Amanah Saham 1Malaysia shares especially for Indians.
- Another first in Malaysian history, in the 2013 budget, RM5 million has been allocated to train Indian students who obtained low grades with skills training courses.
- Tukar and Atom schemes introduced to transform small businesses and grocery shops to the next level.
- Najib took steps to improve the quality of Tamil school education, forming an Action Plan for the Future of Tamil Schools under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Najib deserves the undivided support of the people as he has been proven to be very sincere in his desire to help this nation in development to catch up with the progress and development of other successful countries. We need such a charismatic and exemplary leader to lead our country.
MOHANA MUNIANDY is national Wanita MIC chief.
