I do believe the Umno secretary-general is living up to the adage set by Dr Mahathir Mohamad that "Malays forget easily". But in his recent plea for Malaysians to give Najib Abdul Razak a chance , Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor hopes that the Alzheimer's affliction prone in the Malays will apply to all Malaysians.

Why should we give the worst PM in Malaysian history more chances that he already got? His arrogance and ego are undeniably obvious to the point it defies common sense to keep him in Putrajaya a minute later than after the upcoming general election.

Let us recap these examples of ignorance and ego that defies the traits of a good leader.

While floods in multiple states that affected hundreds of thousands of Malaysians earlier this year, the prime minister had the chance to prove his ‘people first’ mantra during the election instead, he insisted on continuing to play golf in Hawaii.

When Sabah was hit by earthquakes, with tremors continuing even months later, he had the chance of actually showing some compassion and going to the ground there. Instead, he had to go off to Jeddah, even adding that since the trip was planned, he couldn't cancel it. But by God, he sure could bring the family entourage along, though.

When a company owned by the Finance Ministry was said to be in trouble by multiple local news outlets, he was given multiple chances to make sure everything was fine in the company. Instead, he waited till the Wall Street Journal came to make noise before even pushing for investigations.

While doing this, he has ordered every other news portal or business paper repeating these allegations to be blocked from local access, see their licenses suspended, or even receiving weird and vague letters of demand from his lawyers.

When the media jumped on the allegations and asked him if he actually had the money, he was given the chance to be open and admit up to whatever he did. Instead, he decided it wise to say it “wasn’t for personal gain”. In fact, now the story goes that he had received billions of ringgit as a 'donation' .

When his former deputy asked him publicly to explain about the funds, even warning him that Malaysians were not stupid enough to buy the manure he was preaching, he got fired.

Naivete of new cabinet members

Such is the naïveté of our current bunch of the new cabinet hooligans that they tried to defend this by saying that election donations for political parties are not regulated. Yet today, it was announced by a senior member from his own party that no such funds made it into the political party's accounts .

But worst of all, this egotistical leader and even Tengku Adnan himself keeps forgetting that even after winning GE13, keeping him in power for another five years with a popular vote against him, the elected prime minister's first press conference was not to thank the Malaysian voters who actually decided to give him a chance.

Instead, it was to go out and say how he was betrayed by the Chinese, even going so far as to ask “Apa lagi Cina mahu?” (what more do the Chinese want).

Right there and then, he was given the chance to talk about reconciliation, about how Malaysians needed to put aside politics and race and whatever mud was being flung around between all politicians.

While there will be empty-headed cabinet ministers and secretaries-general who continue to think that Malaysian are an ignorant, naïve and downright stupid people to buy into this con, the truth is the only thing forcing them to do so is fear.

So, apologies to Tengku Adnan, but I do believe Malaysians have given this prime minister more chances than he deserves. In fact, I would ask him to go back to his party and ask each division if they still wished the prime minister should remain as a member of the party for all your sakes.
