My dozen wishes for the New Year will be the same as I wished in 2010, as you can see all of it is still valid.

1. We can build and maintain roads without potholes or manholes appearing from nowhere.

2. Our country’s leaders concentrate on national building rather than partisan politics.

3. All enforcement and supervisory bodies carries out their duties expeditiously and fairly.

4. Our government stops creating more and more new bodies or companies but rather use whatever we already have efficiently and merge the many that are in essence doing the same job.

5. Use our limited national funds on development activities rather than operating activities.

6. When we visit a government office agency or government-linked company, the canteen is deserted except during lunch hours.

7. We stop looking at form but concentrate fully on substance.

8. Licences of businesses who break the law are terminated.

9. All government scholarship is centralised and only given after means testing.

10. Civil servants and staff of government agencies and government-linked corporations job swap and be placed in private sector for at least a month so that they are familiar with the requirements of a realistic and competitive working environment.

11. Pensions and medical care are given to all citizens and not just for civil servants as everyone pays taxes and they should not be any difference.

12. The government slowly stays away from business but rather lets the private sector undertake business and government only regulates and supervises.
