With regard to the Malaysian Bar annual general meeting (AGM), the voting system must be changed.

Now the AGM is only held in Kuala Lumpur. Thus voting is only held in Kuala Lumpur. Therefore voters turn out is only among Kuala Lumpur and Selangor lawyers. How can this represent 15,000 lawyers around the country?

Therefore the system must change. Voting should be done on a regional basis. The state Bar must be given the autonomy to conduct its voting and debating on the same resolution across Malaysia.

If Kuala Lumpur can debate and vote on motion to sack the attorney-general (AG), the Johor and Penang Bar should also be given the same right.

Because the Malaysian Bar AGM is held in Kuala Lumpur, the problem is that lawyers across the peninsula will find it dreadful to come to the capital. Just imagine if our general election is only held in Kuala Lumpur?

Take for example the continuing professional development (CPD) points motion. A one-vote majority has affected 15,000 lawyers around the country. That is why it must be changed.
