I cannot disagree more with the views expressed here.

While many of our national laws may have been broken, I am of the opinion that Malaysia must show our compassion and kind-heartedness and forgive the Australian clowns who desecrated our Malaysian flag as well as behaving indecently in public.

They were just in high spirits although we can clearly see they came prepared with undies in the pattern of the Malaysian flag. I have a sneaky suspicion that they may have mistakenly thought Malaysians will applaud them for this ill-thought gesture as they would have thought they were honouring Malaysia and not desecrating our national flag.

Wearing national flag-themed underclothing is quite common in some western countries and they may have wrongly assumed Malaysia will accept it, too.

If there was no malice or ill intention intended, we should just fine them and immediately deport them, with a lifetime ban from entering Malaysia again. One must remember that many sportsmen such as swimmers sometimes don national flag designed swimming trunks and so on.

We should show them Malaysia is big-hearted and compassionate and willing to forgive those who have committed foolish nonviolent illegal acts in our shores. It’s good to note that our judge have released them with a fine and time served in remand.
