Reports of sexual abuse of children frequently appear in the press. Yet despite society recognising that the problem exists there is still insufficient awareness of how to reach out to children so they know what to do to be both safe and helped.

The Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) is therefore arranging training in Kuching , on Oct 21 and 22, and Sibu (24 & 25) to address this shortfall. Entitled ‘Community Action to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse’, the two-day course will be conducted by trainers from Protect and Save the Children, a KL-based NGO specialising in this area as well as from SWWS.

This is part of a three stage project made possible through the support of the government of Canada through their Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. After the training SWWS will assist selected groups to conduct child safety programmes in their communities before hosting a roundtable meeting with key stakeholders, early in 2017, to discuss how child protection systems can be further developed.
