LETTER | A member of Parliament's work is largely confined to tackling policies and laws of the nation and to attend parliament sessions.

Not for “longkang and tempak letak kereta” problems in the locality. These jobs are specifically for the state assemblyperson.

As long as Lim Kit Siang is seen attending meetings when a Parliament session is on, then he has been doing his job in representing the voters from Gelang Patah, now known as Iskandar Puteri.

In actual fact, he does not need to walk the streets to look out for dirty and clogged “longkang” and shortages of “tempat letak kereta” etc. Or to be seen walking about in the neighbourhood.

However, he as the elected MP will, of course, speak out on behalf of the voters from Gelang Patah should they have any relevant issues pertaining to the nation’s policies, economy, education, development and progress etc.

Not to go around to find unkempt conditions in Gelang Patah to report to Parliament.

So it is irrelevant to hear from housewives in Iskandar Puteri complaining that Lim did not serve the locals neither did he attend to local issues since winning the 2013 general election.

Moreover, several voters there had also expressed their anger and could not fathom why Lim would return to defend the seat when he had never attended the needs of the people in the entire five years as the MP for Gelang Patah as reported in the New Straits Times yesterday.

Please bear in mind that these local issues are for the state assemblyperson for that constituency. So, they are barking up the wrong tree.

They should go gather their thoughts and get composed before they make any more statements against Lim. Do not speak for the sake of speaking sake but go to get your facts right before you utter a word.

That is why there are seats for MPs and separate seats for state assemblypersons.

This is because they have different job specifications.
