I write in reference to Terminator's letter: Police 'tudung': Stop the fuss . The writer thinks letter writers or people in general who oppose the tudung ruling are being sarcastic and making a big fuss all over it.

He thinks this group of people has nothing better to do but to whine with sarcasm on the whole issue. I beg to differ. I think this are a group of concerned citizens who foresee what might happen in the future if we were to agree with the police tudung directive.

We know one thing could lead to another. I think Terminator's writing is nave. His myopic view clearly indicates that his view is within the walls of uniformity, no further than that.

He then went on stated that wearing the head scarf is a requirement of the Islamic faith. Let's just give it the benefit of the doubt that donning a head scarf is a requirement of the Islamic faith.

My question is then, if it is so, then why do a lot of influential and reputable Malaysian women, for whatever reason, are not wearing it? I can conveniently list some out for you - former first lady Dr Siti Hasmah, International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz, Bank Negara governor Dr Zeti Aziz, current 'first daughter' Nori Abdullah and UM vice-chancellor candidate Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahbudin among others.

Then my bigger question is, why the double standards? Why is the ruling implied only for the working class and ordinary people like the police officers, teachers, clerks etc but not the daughters of ministers and high class society people?

Anyway, if the government decides to approve the police tudung directive, then please don't be hypocrites. Stop deceiving the world that we are a multiracial and tolerant country.
