I refer to your Mahathir meets Malaysiakini reports .
I would like to share my comments regarding Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Compare Mahathir with any other leader in the region and the distinction will be all too obvious. Use the development he brought to Malaysia and compare with other Third World countries and again the distinction is extremely outstanding.
Some of us cannot even bring such developments to our own families or businesses yet unfairly and unscientifically comment on those who have made Malaysia an outstanding country in the region with most Malaysians so proud to say they are Malaysians.
Ask any Third World citizen if they wished that Mahathir's qualities were in their own leaders and all will instantly say yes. Maybe we have forgotten or have taken for granted all the advancements made possible through Dr M's premiership.
In all constitutions and religious teachings, human rights have to be subdued to society's rights and leaders have the grave responsibility to act on behalf of society not forgetting the political implications. The only way to judge their actions is by the results, not the method or manner the activity was carried out.
No human being has reached the status of perfection where they can find a solution that is perfect. We only have the ability to get as close as possible to the best action based on circumstances and situation.
Thus scientifically and fairly, we need to give all due respect to Mahathir and until we can do a better job than him or until we have a better option or alternative we, logically, ought to remain silent.
Being a leader does not only require intelligence, but also the ability to win the confidence of the people and coalition partners. It is no easy position to hold and yet be able to bring such great development to a country. This is beyond the ability of almost all of us.
This man is truly a great man and legend. I only hope the authorities would confer upon him the title of the second Mahatma of the 20th century because he opened new horizons in so many aspects.
