Why do the Muslim ulama, particularly Harussani Zakaria, think that 'the practice of Kongsi Raya' could erode the faith of Muslims and lead to blasphemy'? Do they not have any confidence in the followers of Islam? Do they think all Muslims cannot think for themselves? That their faith is so weak that they will crumble to ground when they talk or mix with other races?

Really, this is a grave insult to the intelligence of all Malays and Muslims as adjudged by Harussani and other like-minded ulamas. Only the Malays and the Muslims themselves can redress this scornful grievance to their intelligence. It is a common psychological phenomenon for people of whatever religion to change their attitude, loyalty or even faith when there this is regimented control especially by the state.

The Malaysian government, being a Muslim majority administration, should take serious note of this dangerous trend emerging in the minds of these ulama and correct or restrict these ulama from making crass statements that not only affect the good existing inter-racial relations within the country but also give cause for foreign investors to be concerned and wary.

Those in the cabinet, which has many non-Muslims, should speak their minds for the good of the country and not remain wallflowers and think only when it is too late. This also goes for enlightened and moderate Muslims who should make efforts to counter these extremists.

With ulama like these, we can forget about creating a Bangsa Malaysia now or in the future. God help our nation.
