It was interesting to hear the comments from Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on how strongly committed he is to reform Malaysian society.

I only hope that he could take a closer look at the actions and comments of his members of parliament and cabinet ministers.

The most recent round of comments against DAP chairman Karpal Singh (who is currently in a wheelchair) are simply embarrassing and disgusting.

Members of parliament are supposed to be positive role models for society. I cannot imagine why a lawmaker would make such a childish comment as "you are just jealous because I am standing" to someone in a wheelchair.

Is there no way to check the behaviour of MPs?

If the prime minister is not willing or able to check the actions of his own MPs and cabinet ministers, then what hope is there for the reforms that are so dear to him?

The best solution for these comments, and to send a message to Malaysia society, is to kick these misbehaving MPs out of Barisan Nasional. Allow them to sit as independent MPs for a little while as a punishment. It will not harm the position of BN, but it will send a positive message to Malaysian society that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
