I would like to give my congratulations to Anthony Thanasayan and the OKU (disabled) community of Kuala Lumpur for successfully demonstrating to us how representatives of the OKU community are clearly trying to contribute to Malaysian society.

It is sad that many of their needs are not being met because of a simple lack of respect.

The Ampang and Seri Petaling LRT lines, monorail, and KTM services are pretty much inaccessible and have been so from the beginning. The roads and sidewalks we take for granted are either inconvenient or inaccessible to many of the OKU community.

The recent attempt by RapidKL to bring in 'disabled-friendly' buses to make things right after so long a wait, is only the latest example. It is simply unfair. The new 'disabled friendly' buses just seem to be another disappointment. And, even if RapidKL did bring in buses with hydraulic lifts, there isn't much they can do about the kerb design, or the way inconsiderate people block the bus bays and sidewalks.

I am sure that RapidKL tried very hard to make their service 'good enough' by bringing in 'disabled-friendly' buses. That effort is positive and appreciated. At the same time, RapidKL needs to do more. It is time to start being "excellent" and not just settle for 'good enough' any more.

Public transit users, especially the OKU community, deserve more than 'good enough' and RapidKL must work together with the local governments to make this possible.

I hope that the lesson has been learned by RapidKL and the government. Excellence is important and 'good enough' is just not acceptable anymore. And again, the suggestion for a Klang Valley Transit Authority must be considered. A Klang Valley Transit Authority would be able to plan local routes, to meet existing and future demand. A Klang Valley Transit Authority would be able to offer these routes to the bidding companies, provided that they consistently meet the high expectations of the Authority.

A Klang Valley Transit Authority would be able to enforce proper operations to ensure safe and convenient and fast travel throughout the Klang Valley. A Klang Valley Transit Authority could make sure that all buses are really disabled-friendly and work with the DBKL and local governments to make the streets and buildings disabled-friendly as well.

The time for the Klang Valley Transit Authority has arrived.
