For few nights in a row, when watching RTM1 or RTM2, there is a commentary vilifying Anwar Ibrahim. He is being portrayed as someone who is starting a 'revolution' as compared with Umno's 'evolution', with clips of demonstrations and violence. It serves to 'warn' the people against supporting Anwar, as by doing so, it will lead to chaos.

I find it distasteful, if not downright disgusting that our Information Ministry has resorted to such cheap tactics. On the one hand, we are told Anwar is 'finished', a 'has been' and Pak Lah even stated he is 'not worried' over him. If so, YAB, please dissociate yourself from your Information Minister and better still, stop him from further damage as any fair-minded person will feel that what he is doing is a grossly unfair persecution of someone who has no access to the mainstream media. If I am not mistaken, Anwar's dance on stage was speeded to show him dancing like a samba dancer.

After the Ijok by-election victory for BN, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said it proved democracy is alive. What democracy was he referring to if there is no level playing field in a contest? No expense was spared to ensure the BN victory and even the Election Commission and the police were perceived to be biased.

For anyone who is to watch our national television news and commentaries, it is clear that only Umno is allowed to rule. Any Malay from another political party will be denounced and portrayed as a traitor to his own race. He will not be given a chance to prove that the best party wins.

What I do not understand is the heavy-handedness, which could only lead to disgust, frustration and violence. If the present government has been fair and transparent, I am sure there will be no reason to behave unreasonably.

I sincerely hope I am wrong, but I think things will only get better after some setbacks. I see the Chinese votes against BN in Ijok as a message that MCA and Gerakan will lose more seats by being associated with Umno in the coming general elections. Action speaks louder than words.
