The brutal oppression and massacre of peaceful protestors in Burma by a ruthless junta has perturbed the world. I'm sure all of you at Petronas share our concern that the suffering of the Burmese people has gone on far too long. The immoral and insane military government under General Than Shwe must be toppled and replaced by civilian rule under Aung San Suu Kyi's leadership.

To this end, it is necessary that all corporations doing business with the corrupt and vicious junta must search their conscience and make some difficult decisions that will probably involve monetary losses. However, the goodwill and positive public image gained thereby may be well worth the sacrifice.

As a Malaysian citizen, I urge you to discuss this issue with the Petronas board of directors. I'm sure there are thousands, if not millions, who share my strong feelings that continuing to prop up the military junta by investing in Burma is morally indefensible, regardless of the economic factors.

It is our fervent hope that when enough foreign investors suspend their activities in Burma the junta will be forced to step down and allow a measure of honest government to be restored.

This is a magnificent opportunity for Petronas to set a good example by taking immediate steps to put on hold your business activities in Burma until the political situation is resolved in favour of the Burmese people.
