LETTER | I read with concern US President Donald Trump’s recent statement expressing his desire to pressure many more countries into signing the Abraham Accords to recognise Israel.

This move is nothing more than yet another thinly veiled attempt by the United States to further its hegemony and cement its position as the world's single most powerful superpower.

The international community must stand firm and prevent this unilateral imposition of power from happening.

If this push for the recognition of Israel is being used as a bargaining chip or "payment" for the peace deal with Iran, it exposes a deeper systemic betrayal.

It proves, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that we can never trust the United States anymore.

The era of a unipolar world is over. It is high time for a new world order; one that rejects hegemony and instead emphasises just, equitable, and shared prosperity for all nations, regardless of their size.

Form new power axis

Furthermore, the timing of Trump's statement on the eve of Wukuf Day is deeply insensitive and represents a huge insult to Muslims worldwide.

It is time for Muslim countries to work together better, uniting our resources and strategies, and aligning with other like-minded countries across the globe to form a new axis of power that stands for justice and true multilateralism.

To all Muslims, on this Wukuf Day, let us pray for the peace, security, advancement and wellness of Muslims throughout the world, and in solidarity and support to those under suppression, such as the Palestinians and Rohingya, in their struggle for freedom, self-determination, and dignity.
