I feel vindicated for the article which I wrote asking Suhakam members to resign for not having contributed anything positive for the development of human rights in Malaysia ([#1] Human Rights Commission or human rights omission? [/#], April 19).

After reading the four-point plan of Suhakam to improve human rights in Malaysia, I am basically dumb-struck by an organisation that is totally unimaginative in conceptualising the notion of human rights in Malaysia.

Nowhere in its four-point plan has the organisation touched on the issue of racial discrimination. How can an organisation that is set up to promote human rights in the country, ignore a fundamental contradiction and tragedy of institutionalised racism perpetrated by the Barisan Nasional ruling regime?

Why is it so offensive for this pathetic and cowardly outfit to ignore the years of racial discrimination that has polarised Malaysian society in ethnic and religious terms?

Why can't this outfit at least make an attempt to deal with the racial question at least in incremental terms, assuming the board does not want to displease their political bosses in the decadent Umno too much?

I think even a primary school kid given the right direction would have prepared this four-point plan. It is sad and indeed a colossal tragedy that Suhakam has miserably failed in its duty.

Since members of this board are all servile adherents to the dictates of the present regime, I suppose we can't expect too much from them.

With this four-point plan or not, without the end to racial discrimination as practised by the regime, Malaysian politics or human rights can never progress in this country.
