World Press Freedom Day 2001 has passed, generating many discussions in the media. While it is good that more people are becoming aware of the issue, a general awareness is not enough. The battle must be fought every day, to point out the errors committed by reporters and newspapers (including malaysiakini ) and to punish newspapers that distort facts or suppress alternative viewpoints.

How can we punish them? By refusing to buy, read, or advertise in them. The battle has to be fought 365 days a year for the next 10 years at least, even if Barisan Alternatif comes to power.

The people must have a stronger will power and determination to fight against the tyrants controlling the media and reduce them to bankruptcy should they insist on curbing the people's intellectual development.

By the way, I have managed to persuade my father to stop subscribing to the New Straits Times .
