There are two noteworthy points in the saga of MCA takeover of Nanyang Press.

One, MCA is no longer a political party that is fighting for the rights of the Chinese community in Malaysia. Despite overwhelming protest by the Chinese community, it went ahead with the acquisition. This is a clear manifestation of it no longer representing the voices of the Chinese community at large. Rather, it chooses to be the mouthpiece of the all-dominant Umno.

Two, the Chinese community no longer has any representation in the cabinet. The mere fact of Chinese community opposing MCA's acquisition is a sorry milestone in MCA history. Had MCA been effectively defending the rights of the Chinese community, this objection would not have come by.

Now, where do the Chinese community turn to? It is time the community shows solidarity to stand by one party. But which party? Is there any hope for the community in this multiracial country?
