I refer to the Malaysiakini report Lawyer: Saiful to come out of hiding ‘soon’ .

According to the report, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan is coming out from his hideout soon and will swear on the Holy Quran to proof his innocence.

Although I am not insinuating that Saiful is a liar, it suffices for me to say that Malaysia is a liars' lair, inhabited by flip-flopping politicians, pimps, prostitutes, sex fiends and murderers on the upper echelon; and the majority of the population who live in self-denial - entangled in the web of lies spun by our lecherous leaders.

Come on, my fellow Malaysians! Let us open our eyes and consider this case logically.

Isn't this making a mockery out of the holiest book in Islam? Isn't this a blatant misuse of Islam, the religion of peace and tolerance?

After so many stunning revelations and dramatic twists in the story, the public's opinion is already set. It is either you believe the young man or you don't. Even if he swears on all the holy books of every religion in the world, the people's mindset is not going to change.

If this case should ever go to court, public judgment will once again overrule and nullify whatever outcome the trial might bring. It is going to be a battle of characters that will determine who wins and who loses. In a country where the judicial system has lost its credibility in the eyes of the people, the public will take over as the holy trinity of prosecutor, defendant and judge.

Therefore swearing on the Quran will only prove two things – that one is capable of misusing religion to facilitate devious schemes and that one is willing to bring down his own religion with him if he should fall.

No one should ever use any holy book for this purpose. There are other more credible ways of doing it without blemishing one's own religion.

And if he really decides to swear and later is found guilty of lying, what punishment can the religious authority impose on him other than waiting for him to be punished by God? As Raja Petra Kamruddin said, a Muslim can absolve himself from all sins by repenting even if he had committed a thousand crimes.

We are all living in an extensive web of lies which is getting more complicated and entangled each day. Only spiders and snakes can survive in this predatory environment. The rest of us Malaysians will be victims of circumstances although I would add not 'innocent' victims.

We are as much to be blamed for the political chaos that is happening today. For over fifty years, Malaysians have been feeding these liars by voting them into power election after election.

The majority of Malaysians chose to remain in their comfort zones and try not to disrupt the 'balance' of the Barisan Nasional government despite the knowledge that this particular dacing favours the ruling party more than the rakyat .

Enough is enough!

Are we going to allow a 23-year-old university dropout to determine the fate of 27 million Malaysians?

Or should we rally behind a 60-year-old man who has been fighting for justice, equality, peace and freedom for Malaysia throughout these difficult years?

The verdict is for us to decide. Let's untangle ourselves from this web of complacency and escape from the liars' lair.
